When I saw the cover art for Prince's new three disc album, Lotus Flow3er, I thought immediately of Rudolf Steiner's lectures on bees published by Anthroposophic Press, 1998. Here's an excerpt:
"Our life as human beings is dependent on the fact that we continuously want to form six-sided crystals, beginning with the the head and going down into the rest of the body, but we stop this crystal formation just in time, so that it doesn't happen. The quartz we have in us is responsible for this, not because of its chemical composition but rather by virtue of the fact that it has a strong will to take on a six-sided form as a crystal."
Then, later, Steiner explains the bees' reaction to these invisible six-sided forces at work within us:
"Now when a bee approaches a person who is afraid, it senses in that person, more than it normally does when the blood is properly distributed in the skin, this force that affects things in a six-sided manner, and it wants to obtain from you honey or wax. Whereas if a person calmly approaches the bees, and the blood is distributed evenly, the bee has a very different experience. the bee then notices that the person's blood has the same amount of the six-sided power as it has.
Now, imagine that you are angry as you approach the bees. Anger will make you red. In this case, a lot of blood suffuses the skin, and this blood wants to receive more of the six-sided force. The bee, with its fine sensitivity, notices this and believes that you want to take away from it this six-sided power-so it stings you. These are very fine sensibilities that register the various powers in nature that are playing about out there or are contained outside things."
